Socks that make your heart sing...

today we went over to the neighbours house, aka the big boss, and oh me oh my how dreamy! it was the kind of place many of us drool over! a cute old brick home with black shutters, ivy laced all over and a old thatched roof, amazing huge art sculptures were hiding in the beautiful gardens around every corner! an apple orchard out the front, greenhouses to the side and a pool + tennis court out the back. i would have killed to nosey around inside!!! but my favourite part would have to be the huge adorable delicious vege garden! zucchini, eggplant, artichokes, tomatoes, snow peas, broccoli ahhh the list could go on and on it was magical with pretty flowers all around the edges and old crooked wooden fences boxing it in. so jealous. i dream of having a back lawn full of furry rabbits, free chickens, scrummy fresh veges and fruit trees! magic.....

on another note heres a little outfit that makes me feel like a 5 year old, due to the socks i wore when i was 5 im sure, but also so very happy! xx

family.

Kendall falling alseep in grandma Kathy's arms

Yesterday I was watching leslie and mike with their babies. As I watched them I pulled out my laptop and wrote “The warmth of a mothers touch to your skin. Her embrace and the way her gaze holds you is the epitome of love. The warmth and understanding of pure safety and the belief of her protection surrounding you for a life time is one of the most beautiful and cruel things in this life. the day you realise she is only human is painful and disappointing. Then the day you realize she can be taking from you, is the first day of forever that you live in fear of it.
A smile from a father offered to his child is something that will send tingles all through your body. It will make you weep out of happiness. I think one thing that we strive for the most in our lives is a fathers approval. Making him proud. Been a success for you but just as much for him. No matter how good or bad the relationship between you in the past and future. Wining this love from him is everything in which we seek.
Real love is being together not because it works but because you can see no other way of life. That real love is probably never easy or perfect. Nothing falls into place nicely, that’s why love is so poetical- its full of tragedy. And likewise tragedy is full of love."
This is what I saw when I looked at that little family. How beautiful is that? and how lucky am i to be apart of not only my own perfect family but one like this too.

Washington pictures

Washington was so great. its alot older and cuter then i thought. i think i keep expecting cities to be like home except bigger, but they never are, im really starting to see how young nz really is. washington is very cute, sweet and family orientated. i loved the old vintage houses that i could easily mistake for doll houses. each little room is so cluttered with love and cherished stories. i was told that most of the "washington styled houses are from world war two, they were built for that purpose but now days families refurbish them for cute family homes." the history behind them and the sweet structure itself made me want to live in DC purely for the houses. the city itself is nice and clean and easy to get around. i did all the tourist monuments although skipped most of the museums, im not proud to admit it but i really dont care for museums at all. i think the idea of them is great but personally, after weakly trying to get into a few i found myself much happier reading under a tree with the sun on my back, feeling the grass under my feet and getting frights from the hyper squirrels running around me. the people there are so nice and kind i felt like making friends with everyone i passed and it left you going home on the train with that buzzy little feeling in your chest that maybe people are good after all. hope you like the pics, i have about a million so was hard to chose....

some thoughts right now:
- Neutral Milk Hotel and Death Cab for Cutie just jumped their way up into my most favorite bands ever
- I am falling in love with Bright Eyes and Brand New all over again and wonder how i can make Jesse Lacey marry me
- I really must get to a top shop sometime soon
- wondering what 93 degrees is in whatever we measured temperature in in nz?
- and i am very excited about fourth of July this weekend, spending the day at the Greenwich Beach soaking up some precious salt water and watching She & Him this weekend in the city.

what are you thinking?

4am happiness

Thrice at Irving Plaza NYC

In one hour i will have been up for 24 hours, most of them working, and sober for all of them, im not sure how i have done it and am still happy right now....although i do know crash time is just moments away. i got up for work at 5am yesterday, worked all day then headed straight into nyc for thrice in concert at the irving Plaza. Love! the band was amazing. right up front with my great new aussie friend blanche trying to find our feet, but mainly letting everyone else carry us from side to side, up and down. Here i was feeling bad about not getting a gym session in for the day but after, oh i should add it was 90 degrees of humid mugg all day today, running two blocks and 6 flights of stairs to get to my train after been caught in stupid traffic on the way with no air con, then dripping so much sweat i swear i could fit my bettina lianos again, during the gig. i think today im sussed for cheating the gym. there where also three pretty great supporting acts playing too which i recommend you check out-

They had such a cute set up on stage too. love their sweet little theme.

Eat Pray Love

Today i joined the bandwagon and started reading Elizabeth Gilberts famous Eat Pray love. my good friend Mel actually recommended the book to me a while back, and although i dont remember why now i decided to ignore that good advice, but recently the urge to get some good reading research and inspiration back into my life is here and after seeing this book is about to hit the big screen i wanted to make sure i read it before i went to see it at the movies. i went down to the local library and got a card which was an exciting venture for me as it is, back home i became obsessed with buying books to collect and forgot how beautiful and amazing of a resource libraries are. i love books and stories. the physical thing, the idea of them, the pages, fonts and paper, the content- everything. and although i do love apple i hate this new (well new to me) thing they have brought out where you can read your books on an electronic devise. makes me sad that the electronic world is taking over so much of the good things in life. anyway i am only up to page 39 and i had to tear myself away to go make dinner (see dinner pictures below) and i am already feeling like i might need to betray my new library and buy this book so i can scribble and highlight all the points and techniques in her writing that i love. i have not read a book in a very long time that suits my writing style so much. the very conversational, messy, write as i think, confused, long winded way of telling her stories with little links here and there is very much my writing genre and its nice and educational for me to see how you actually get all that into a publishable form and in this case not just publishable but famous! it is very exciting to not only read and relate to her tales but learn and dream of my own working progress. so im sure i will keep you posted on how this story goes for me. i can be quite the critic when it comes novels...

In other life i am feeling very excited about tomorrow. we are taking the babies into the city to their heart doctor. this may be as good as time as any to tell you i work with three 12 month old triplets. they were very prem and so have little glitches that need monitoring here and there, their little hearts been one. i found out today that they were born with little holes in their hearts, which is not only a lot more common then i ever realized, but so adorable. that may sound like a very ignorant thing to say because it is actually a very sad and life threatening condition but these babies just light up your life and are so perfect and healthy now that i find it so poetic that they have real life holes in their hearts. then after our appointment in the city we are taking off for a road trip with the family to New Hampshire which i am getting very excited about going crazy with my camera for and getting some great pics to share with you! so my weekend is looking good- i hope your is too! x

All the things i love about zucchini...

I have always kind of liked Zucchini but never really appreciated it as much as i have recently learnt to. have you ever tried it raw thrown into any salad? preferably with toasted almond slices- its amazing! there is alot more yummy things you can try with this versatile vegetable. heres a few recipes i have fallen in love with:
Zucchini fritters
2 zucchinis grated
1 egg
2/3 C shredded chedder cheese
2/3 C round butter crackers crumbled (thats Ritz crackers in the states and Snax crackers in NZ both in the red box)
-combine mixture into a bowl. If mixture seems wet add more crackers. Shape mixture into thin patties and Fry in non- stick pan for about three mintues on each side. Makes four servings
and i really have to stress how easy and tasty these are!!!!

Zucchini muffins (which are sweet not savory which i was surprised about when i heard about them)
Prep time 30 mins
-1 ½ C shredded zuccini (about 2 small)
- 2 C whole grain pancake or biscut mix
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon all apsice
-2 eggs
-¾ c, brown sugar
-¼ c. unsweetened apple juice
- 2tsp. fresh lemon juice
- powdered sugar (enough to dust muffins)
shred zucchini and squeeze in paper towls to remove water
measure 1 ½ c
pre heat oven to 375
line tin with inners
use large bowl to mix pancake mix with spices
in separate bowl whisk egg brown sugar apple juice and lemon juice
fold egg sugar mixture and zucchini into pancake-spice mixture- do not over mix
fill each muffin cup 2/3 full of batter
bake 10-15 mintues until golden brown
remove muffins and sprinkle with dust
