weekend fun

This weekend was actually pretty laid back, one of those nice catchup, save money ones. which was going along fine until i went to urban outfitters online store on sunday! where i ordered this top, which i just couldn't resist, and i'm now super excited to see it wedged into my mail box later this week! i personally hate souvenirs, i don't like getting them, i don't like giving them, i don't like shopping for them. presents i love, but souvenirs to me is something someone gives you that has no meaning to you, cause you haven't been there, and in every other sense of the word is a useless piece of crap. of course thats generally speaking, there is the odd exception.
So here i am living in New York with well no "New York" memorabilia and lets face it, everyone needs a New York T right? each day i pass these oversized unfitted t's "i <3 NYC" down the streets, but i haven't been able to bring myself to get one knowing full well it will not be seen in the light of day when i look like a drowned rat in her fathers t-shirt in it. So you can imagine my delight when i came across this cute "souvenir" new york t from my favorite store!

I did also manage to pop over to the next door neighbours annual apple picking party on the beautiful hot saturday with my friend Blanche, which might sound like quite a weird way to spend your saturday. but this party really is one of a kind. i guess it does help that my neighbour is a multi millionaire and the party was set up in a big or three big marquees in the middle of his apple orchard with amazing food and drinks, complete with a pop corn and candy floss machine where you can stir it right onto your own stick! there were piles of big stacks of old wooden baskets to help yourself to that included a map around the orchard so you knew what you were picking, and at then end of the day you got to go home with you sick belly and ample apples. nice!

Goodbye Summer

it is offically Fall. the trees are turning beautiful warm hues and letting their leaves drift in the refreshing cool breeze. its a beautiful time of year, especially here in connecticut where theres trees every angle you look, but no evergreens like back home. every Autumn since i was a kid this has been a sad time of year for me, i have always lived for those perfect summers and so been sad to see them go, but this year is different. this year after two back to back summers and exciting adventures on the brink of fall and winter i cant help but smile everytime a tree that use to be green but has changed over night catches my eye....one day closer....
so today in order to farewell the sweet summer i spent a quiet afternoon at the beach and had my last, expectingly cold, swim in the lush salt water, turns out it was really nice and i found it hard to get out! the perfect end to beautiful beautiful summer.

and now show and tell time- another nice thing- shopping; these are some of the treats i have purchased of late

i have a love affair with bicycles- not really these old ones, but still, its pretty cool.

Urban Outfitters will you marry me? (click here to fall in love)

im not sure i have ever loved one store quite like this- its a painful one way love- expensive and time consuming- but worth it!
of course pretty much every shoe and item of clothing has my heart beating like mad and my head screaming "why are you back here!? get out GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT NOWWW- runnnn!". and then theres the bikes (that by the way you can design and build online!!!) and mugs and records oh the records, She & Him, The Beatles, Neutral Milk hotel, The Shins, Bon Iver you name it, anyone good its there and no body bad! the headphones, note pads, jewelry, lingerie, cushions, wallets, socks, even the tags, yes thats right the pretty tags with wonderful pictures and my latest must have- the cameras! and you know its not only what they sell, the walls, posters, in many cases staff and customers, the music they play and floor layout....ohhhhh its just beyond anything else i have ever experienced (sorry topshop). anyway its quite obvious this is a slightly sick obsession so with out further a-due.....i pass the spell on to you, check it out...boy pffttt....Urban you win my heart every time!

Vail

Yesterday my lovely little stint in Vail, Colorado came to an end. i have been trying to think of the best way to explain the magnificence of Vail to you with out writing a novel of sweet gushing adjectives but really didnt know where to start- Vail is so many things- but as we were preparing to leave i realized exactly with Vail is to me. im sure most people would have a place like this. to some it maybe their family home or bed to me it has always been a destination. somewhere you feel complete, at home, and more like yourself then anywhere else. to me this place has long been the beautiful Coromandel in New Zealand. Time and time again when it comes to the day when i have to leave this spot, no matter how soon i will back, this overwhelming sadness or disappointment gushes over me. like your falling from heaven and returning into the real world.

and yesterday as i was sitting in the streets of vail i felt this similar feeling- like when i would leave there i would leave a little piece of me too and go back into the real world feeling a little more lost. like Vail gave me that comfort of home and the Coromadel- a place that i am missing so much- and then i left it behind again.

a few weeks ago i found this picture on another blog and saved it feeling like i could relate to this feeling in terms of leaving New Zealand and have been waiting to share it with you, and maybe on a smaller scale Vail presents this feeling too.....

Perfect detail from light switches and door handles to patterned guttering, pathed streets laced with quaint street lights, wild flowers, heavy wooden and stone pedestrian bridges over the stoney creek that runs parallel with the town, and over flowing flower boxes. the atmosphere where you dont know if you are walking in the middle of the road or not- but it doesn't matter either way. where locals greet all down the streets, have secret spots and a surreal understanding to the paradise they live in- something that maybe tourist understand but never have the guts to live it. this is Vail.
