Coco

So its thanksgiving day and i have been snuggled up in bed with my sister watching the film Coco before Chanel. Im waiting for the call from downstairs to say the turkey is ready but im hoping i have time instead to tell you all about it while its fresh in my mind and its ideas are running through my veins. oh yes and be warned im going to totally spoil the movie for you so if you want a surprise dont read on....

In all honesty it was a little sad. Coco's determination left her a little too proud to accept happiness into her life, and the one time she did, it failed her as she found her one and only love dead. when she was with this man was one of the few times in the movie she really smiled. but her story of success in her career was completely inspiring and empowering. coming from an orphanage and becoming the icon she is through complete and utter passion and devotion really makes you want to set your goals high and remember whats important.

I loved the camera angles and themes throughout the movie which were portrayed professionally and subtly like a good movie should. and of course it helped that Coco was played by the stunning little Audrey TauTou from everyones favorite Amelie. Her big brown eyes and pale ivory skin quite seriously stole my heart. arghhh turkeys ready........ happy thanksgiving x

Now you're in New York

My sister has come to visit me! So for the first time i have really gotten into the sightseeing scene in the city that never sleeps. We had an exciting yet exhausting packed weekend the one just been so i thought i should show you some snaps :)


On Friday night we got all dolled up (/ i had just gotten off work so got dressed in the car on the way and did my makeup on the train) and went to the very famous radio city christmas spectacular with the rockettes which was truely quite amazing! i do have to admit im not much of a festive person myself but after watching this its hard not to get excited about my first ever white christmas. there was an ice skating rink on stage, three camels (real alive camels! which made me a little sad, but still impressive), four sheep, two goats, dancing teddy bears, a moving bus, and some pretty trippy choreography which kept you guessing where people kept coming from. After the show we heading up town to a friends apartment for a few drinks before heading all the way back down town to a bar called Down the Hatch in the east village, which is my new all time favorite bar in the city.

The next day (after two hours sleep) we where up bright and early feeling a little crippled and hungover and set out on our day of sightseeing. we walked the streets of greenwich village and the lower east side just cause thats a fun things to do, stopped at few shops and ate a scrummy yummy meal of spinach and walnut gnocchi. Then Sunday was all about upper manhatten.





Nivonne had her first experience of the new york food stands on the street, some kind of hazelnut thing, although i had already warned her everything from those stands are pretty foul.



we stopped by Brynt park, which was looking very pretty and festive, to get Max Brenner hot chocolates and then made our way up up up town through central park (of course stopping to get a little ice skating in) to the Solomon Guggenhein art museum before heading back to the New York City Library, dinner at a romantic asian bristo in times square and Madam Tussauds wax museum then BED! with blistered feet and aching legs. i have to say i was almost relieved to go back to work on monday and relax a little.






All in all it was a magical weekend- thanks New York! Next weekend- Boston after our tradition Thanksgiving dinner with the family tomorrow

Trousers

I guess with the darker gloomy winter days closing in on us its becoming time to kiss sweet pretty fall behind and wrap up a little more. my cute little dresses may not suffice like they did in winters back home where tights and a jacket could keep me snug. so i am attempting to dress for a real winter (according to josefine i haven't quite got this down yet).....so with this i welcome my new fetish- trousers (not just jeans)....im excited already!

A Tuesday fit for Kings

Last night i was lucky enough to head into the city and checkout Kings Of Leon live at Madison Square Garden in the heart of Manhattan with my darling sister who has come to stay for a few weeks. Today along with exhaustion, bruised and battered knees, little voice left to control the over enthused triplets and a cold from running home in the pouring rain in god knows what freezing temperatures i am feeling pretty stoked about the night. Their live performance musically was immaculate to the point where i wouldn't be able to guess if it was live or recorded, the atmosphere was electric (after a few drinks of course) and my favourite the camera work on the big screen had me captivated, i had to keep reminding myself to actually watch the stage instead of the vintage look crackling black and white live film with amazingly effective camera angles and focus points. The one little let down was their lack of excitement and stage presence. sure they played their instruments well but a little crowd interaction or movement would have made all the difference.

Silly me, for some unknown reason, didnt think to bring my camera (which i was kicking myself about the entire night) so heres a few photos courtesy of my sister nivonne.

To cut or not to cut

For as long as i can remember I have been that person who has always whined and complained about wanting long hair and yet cut all of mine off frequently. Theres something youthful and beautiful about long scraggily hair that makes any outfit look better. I do try, but the knots normally win and my patience wears thin so off it goes, of course having a best friend as a hairdresser also added to this haircut obsession. Now since moving away from that friend, and having two nasty pricey haircut experiences in America i have gone with the natural afro re-growth look deciding this time i will grow and grow and grow it until its all that i have dreamt of......but the battles with the hairbrush are getting all too much already.....and then i see these babes sporting some cute pixie looks and wonder........(even though i already know i couldnt) could i pull this off too?

Birthday Girl

So yesterday was (in america) my 22nd birthday. i got treated with some special gifts from near and afar which i will share with you soon ( aka when i get myself sorted and take some pictures). But I have to admit the main thing I felt about the day was sadness that I wasn't in New Zealand celebrating it with all my wonderful friends and family.

Thankfully my substitute american family pulled me out of my snugly bed and pjs and out to dinner after a long day at work.
We tried out a new asian bristo down the Ave and at the end of the night all the staff and a few tables of people sung happy birthday to me as a "cake" was brought out ( much to my embarrassment). It was then I realized that has never happened to me before, at a restaurant for my birthday with the surprise cake and song- so maybe after all it was a special birthday in its own little way...
